Hello everyone, I'm new here.
I live in Michigan, and I have hydradenitis suppurativa, a chronic skin condition which often causes pretty intense pain. Dermatologists I've seen seem to think antibiotics or surgery are the only options for alleviating symptoms (there is no known cure). I've tried many antibiotics and the side effects are almost always worse than the disease itself (runners should never take ciprofloxacin), not to mention they typically do nothing for the symptoms other than distract me with new ones. I have heard good things about medical marijuana's effects on this disease in terms of lowering pain and helping with the lesions. I have smoked marijuana before and while it didn't cure me (obviously) it definitely seemed to nullify the symptoms to a more tolerable level. I think this might be related to the fact that stress causes flare-ups, and having this disease is extremely stressful (socially and physically). Anyway I would rather try consuming it or using the oil topically, as I have heard (from other HS sufferers on internet forums, not the most reliable source I know) that this helps more than smoking.
To get to the point, I just need to find a doctor who is open to recommending medical marijuana. My current dermatologist doesn't seem the type at all, so I'm wondering how I should go about starting the process. I don't really want to begin a paid membership with NORML, as they have no centers in my area and the medicine and application process are going to cost money as it is. I have the application to send to Lansing printed out, just no doctor to fill out a recommendation. I have never had a steady physician, so I also don't know how I would go about procuring my medical history beyond about six months ago.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
