  • New to growing looking for some advice...

Hello all, new here and after looking at many of the grow forums I felt this one had the best info so here I am looking for a little help.

I'm new to growing and as a green pea I have a few question and recommendations regarding a good tent. The tent size will be 36" X 48", 36" X 36" or 48" X 24" and hight will be 50"-70". what would be a good tent and the light will be LED and probably the Platinum LED brand. For the tent size that I need what would be the best size light to produce a great product in a timely period. I'll probably start the flowering stage early, smaller plant.

Thx in advance and I've really enjoyed the reading thus far...

This CFL page talks about required lumens and color temp, etc. Then there's a pile of information about LEDs under the grow light tab, up top. I've spent hours reading through these, very helpful.

For an SOG set up, which is what you are describing, you want a light with a footprint that will completely fill your tent. Sometimes 2 smaller lights will do this better and with more power than 1 big one, but for the tent sizes you're talking about 1 will do it. Any decent LED manufacturer will give you the footprint of your light is you ask them.
SOG systems are ideal for LEDs as they don't penetrate as much as other types of light and work better with a nice flat canopy. You should take a look at some of the SCROG systems as well as these also present an even canopy. In fact, any type of training that opens out the top of the plant is preferred for LEDs. If you just grow big plants straight up (untopped) then the lower sections of the plant don't get enough light and become unproductive.
Will be interested to see what you finally choose and how you get on with it.
            Cheers.
